The Optimist Club of Greater Vienna hosts open house events at the Vienna Red Caboose and help to maintain it.
Optimist members volunteer as 'conductors' on the caboose. This is a wonderful Vienna special treat that children remember their whole lives and then return with their children and grandchildren!
The Red Caboose was unveiled as part of the Town of Vienna's 100th Anniversary celebration in 1990, and is a reminder of the importance of the railroad industry in Vienna's history. Kids just love climbing on the caboose, located along Church St. across from the Freeman Store and Museum.
The Red Caboose is usually open on the third Saturday each month, at 1pm, from March to November. It is also open for special occasions on Church St. such as Viva Vienna (May) and Strolling on Church (November). Check the Optimist calendar for opening dates.
